General Instructions:
If you are on a blood thinning medication such as warfarin (Coumadin), heparin, lovenox, or aspirin be sure to call (402) 465-4545 and ask the nurse whether you should continue to take the medicine before your procedure!
This is VERY IMPORTANT!! You should check even if you take as little as 1 baby aspirin per day. You should generally not take aspirin for 5-7 days, or certain arthritis medications related to aspirin, such as Celebrex, Vioxx, ibuprofen
(Advil, Motrin, Nuprin), naproxen (Aleve), or ketoprofen (Orudis) for 3-5 days prior to your procedure. The nurse will give you more specific instructions when he/she speaks with you.
If you are diabetic, be sure to let the nurse know when he/she speaks to you. The nurse will have specific instructions regarding your diabetic medications. If you take other medication regularly, the nurse will give you instructions regarding
what you should take before the exam. Generally, you should continue to take blood pressure medicine, heart medicine, lung (breathing) medicine, seizure medicine, and antacid (ulcer) medicine as you usually do.
